Michael Frenzel, President of the Federal Association of German Tourism Industry, stated that they anticipate a recovery in the number of German tourists coming to Turkey, which drastically declined in the recent past, for the upcoming year and added that early reservations indicate an increase of 15-20% in the number of German tourists coming to Turkey for the year 2018.
According to the data of Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the number of German tourists coming to Turkey was 2.5 million in January-August period this year, whereas this figure was 2.7 and 3.7 million in the same period of the years 2016 and 2015 respectively.
'PRICE-QUALITY BALANCE IS AN ATTRACTION’
Frenzel, who participated in the meeting organized on the occasion of the 25th foundation anniversary of OTI Holding, made an assessment for Reuters and said that the decisive factor accounting for the decline in the number of German tourists coming to Turkey was the concern for safety. “Politics change very rapidly and I believe that political developments do not affect people’s decisions”, he said. Frenzel stated that the quality level of Turkish tourism has always been high and the price - quality balance has attracted tourists, and said: “Turkey offers a very competitive pricing in terms of the price of a weekly package including the flights compared to other destinations, and this helps in getting the tourists back to Turkey”.
PACKAGE PRICES REDUCED BY 30%
According to the information given by Coskun Yurt, Vice Chairman of OTI Holding which is the tourism company that has brought the highest number of tourists to Turkey in 2017, the package prices in Turkey have reduced by 30% compared to 2014 due to the economic crisis in Russia and Ukraine which are the largest tourism markets of Turkey and the decline in the number of the total number of tourists.
